Don Carlos Interview
on May 29th, 2004, I had the great opportunity to interview Reggae Legend Don Carlos. He was performing in Guernville at the Russian River Reggae Splash, and sat down with me to talk for awhile before his set. During their show, Don and his band basically threw out the set list and took requests, and was definitely the highlight show of the festival. This is part 1 of our interview with Don Carlos, with Part 2 coming in a few weeks.
Ras James: How did you get you're start in the music industry? Don Carlos: Well you know, just by going around other entertainers, like, Gregory Isaacs, jimmy London, Roy Shirley. Ras James: You were part of the original Black Uhuru lineup, what was that like? Don Carlos: Well you know, the experience, is just like you know, a growing process because in those days we were young. We were in our teens, some of us early 20s, it was a growing process, but it was good days because still kinda define who we are and definitely improve us in certain aspects. Ras James : What drew you to Rastafari? Don Carlos: You know differently, Rasta is really not a religion or organization, it's just a way of life. It's like, I&I as Rastafarian believe in love and peace, unity and oneness among the world, you know, equality and justice so those mostly are my beliefs, and to acknowledge that there is a god and is responsible for you and I being here Ras James: How Many albums have you put out? Don Carlos: As Don Carlos, I've got a lot of albums out there, but originally I put out about 12, but there is over 15, 16 maybe more because people keep on recycling album, mixing album, there's some out there I don't even know of, but you know, works haffi gwan still. More highlights from our interview with Don Carlos will come within the next few weeks.
