 Sister I-Live - Jealousy

ALBUM COVER        Sister I-Live - Jealousy (As We Grow Productions)
                            rating: 8.5/10

"Jealousy" is the last release from Sister I-live, and is available on the As We Grow Productions label. Sister I-Live is a singer based out of the bay area who fuses Roots with Dancehall. She is a cousin of the Legendary Peter Tosh, and has been performing in the bay area for many years.

The First song Searching for Jah is perhaps one of the best songs on the album. A solid riddim and harmony vocals, courtesy of Melanie and Lieba Hibbert, Brimstone, and Alreca Smith, make this track very enjoyable. Plus, the message of searching for Jah to make us better is very true. Bless Be The Day rides the same riddim as The Reggae Angels Good Vibes. and features Keyboard work from reggae legend Augustus Pablo. great harmony vocals, plus a prominent keyboard part make this track one of the standout tracks (so far, 2 of the best songs on the album are in a row). Ghetto Woman features the DJ talents of  Captain Calvary, and is a call to Women and Children of the Ghetto to keep their heads up never give up, and most importantly "grab education and run." the next song In The Valley is an herbalists anthem that also features Captain Calvary. The sound quality is lower on this track then the rest of the album, but despite that the track is still a great dancehall/roots combination. Creation is a nice relaxed song with Digital backing music giving thanks unto the Mother and Father of Creation. The lyrics to this song were written by Don Carlos, and is really a good track. I would have preferred a live band backing, but it's still a good track. On the upside of this track, bay area duo Rankin Scroo and Ginger do backing vocals on this track. Feel Brand New goes back to a live band feel, and is a great feel-good track. Red Dress is a slow, jazzy love song, featuring some nice jazz guitar work on a minor progression. Jealousy, the title track, is a slow, depressed-sounding track with a guitar part from Fazel Prendergast. Stay With Me is  an upbeat love song over the riddim of Reggae Angels' Loyalty from their album "Spirit Signs and Wonders". As is common with Reggae Angels tracks, the riddim is held down very well, and has an excellent bass line. Girlfriend is a good track, but compared to the rest of the album, it's not especially unique. It's got a nice feel to it, and the message is about the importance of loyalty in friendship. The last vocal track of the album How Can You Do That is a track warning and scolding all those who do evil. "Too Much innocent blood, have been shed... How Can You Do That? when you know that is wrong". This is a very strong track, and was a great choice to close the album's vocal tracks with. The next 7 tracks are the dub versions of Red Dress, In the Valley, Searching for JAH, Stay With Me, Ghetto Woman, Feel Brand New, and these grouping of tracks end with a dub version of How Can You Do That. Overall, this is a very enjoyable album, & gets a very respectable 8.5 out of 10, and Bay Area Reggae recommends seeing Sister I-live live, it'll be very hard to sit down during her high energy performance.
